New Fairfield Aquaflyers had four swimmers
who qualified in individual events to compete at Age Group
Championships July 24-27, 2008. Individual Qualifiers were
Kaitlin Murtha, Erica MacSwan, Ryan Murphy and John Rossi.
Three of the swimmers competed at Age Groups which has
preliminary race swum in the morning and the top 18 come back at
night to compete at finals. John Rossi was participating in a
swim for cancer.
Kaitlin Murtha (14) had an
exceptionally well swam 200 backstroke in the finals placing 9th
overall with a 2:37.85L taking 3sec off her lifetime best swim
and narrowly missing qualification for zones. She also swam
the 100 backstroke placing 9th overall with a (1:14.27L),
2.24sec faster then her lifetime best, 200Breast and placed
13th overall taking 6.63sec off her lifetime best time
(3:02.35L). Kaitlin also qualified in the 100breast, 200IM,
400IM and 50free.
Erica MacSwan (14) came back for finals in her 100
Breaststroke (6th overall, 1:23.08) and her 200 Breaststroke
(4th overall, 2:58.61), beating her times swam at preliminaries
in the morning. These swims qualified Erica to represent the
Connecticut Swimming team at the Eastern Zone Swim Meet in
Rockville, MD August 6-9. The Zone meet has the top swimmers in
each event from all the states in the Eastern Zone compete. The
Eastern Zone is comprised of swimmers in Adirondack, Middle
Atlantic, Allegheny Mountain, New England, Connecticut, New
Jersey, Maine, Niagra, Maryland, Potomac Valley, Metropolitan
and Virginia.
Ryan Murphy (13) just aged up into
the 13/14 group and still placed 10th overall in the 1500 Free
(mile swim) with a (19:04.94L) dropping 30sec for his best
time. He also placed 11th in the 200 Backstroke (2:34.97L)
dropping 9.10 sec from his lifetime best swim. Ryan also swim
the 400 Freestyle (4:46.47L), 100 Freestyle (1:03.51L), 100
Backstroke (1:15.16L) and the 200free (2:19.41L).
